Having good cold calling skills can be an excellent resource for insurance agents. Not only is cold calling a good way to help you save time by developing sales quickly, but it can also help you save money on your marketing and advertising costs.
However, cold calling is not easy, and not every insurance agent can do it well right away. That is where social media can be helpful. Using social media to look up prospects before you speak with them, you can learn more about them and make the conversation flow much more natural.
Find out if they have things in common with you, such as your alma mater, or attend the same church. Perhaps you volunteer for the same organization or have the same interests, such as local sports teams.
Check out their posts if possible and see what they are sharing the most. Are they posting about the same issues you could help out with? If you are concerned about letting them know you’ve checked out their profile, you can start with a question like, “Have you experienced any financial issues lately that my insurance services could assist with?” for example.
It is also good to perform a Google search on your prospect to learn more about them. By doing so, you can find out more personal or business-related details. Here are a few things to keep in mind when using Google to help with your cold calls.
If the client has a common name, you will want to limit the search to your current city or nearby. Try searching for “Client Name” + “City Name.” By putting the words in quotation marks, you are forcing Google to only search for those exact words.
If your client is a business owner, you can search for their name along with the name of the business that they own in the same fashion, “Client Name” + “Business Name” + “City Name.” That will help you to narrow down your results, so you get the correct person.
By learning more about your prospects, you can make your cold calls feel a lot less cold and a little more personal, making the entire process much easier for everyone involved.
